Burgers and Beans

In my quarantine discoveries, I’ve learned that most of what we would order at a restaurant is pretty easy to produce at home and 9 times out of 10, it tastes better too!

Zach is a master on the grill and I can hang in the kitchen pretty well, so things like burgers, grilled chicken, grilled steak, etc. Has been a fun treat at the end of the week for us.

This weather has been SO beautiful that we have taken advantage of several date nights on the back porch with our yummy grilled meals. And it never fails that once we are finished eating, we polish off the night with a (sometimes) friendly game of rummy. We play to 500 and I won’t tell you who the better card player is…

One meal we are learning to master together consists of homemade burgers, homemade French fries, and my daddy’s baked bean recipe!

Let me just brag on my daddy’s baked bean recipe for a minute…you guys…I could eat this ENTIRE dish by itself. I’m not even exaggerating..the beans are THAT good.

I get a lot of my love for experimenting in the kitchen from my daddy. There’s nothing he can’t make or figure out how to make. And I aspire to be that good in the kitchen someday. But until I reach that level, I’ll keep following his AMAZING recipes.

So without further ado, here’s the ticket to your next outdoor grilling date night. And remember, it’s not complete without a game of rummy after. 😉

Burgers on the Grill Date Night

Burger Recipe:

  • 1 lb of ground beef
  • 1/4 cup of finely diced onion
  • 3/4 cup of bread crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • S&P to taste
  • 1 tsp of paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp dried parsley

*Combine ingredients well and form into patties, then grill them!

Baked Bean Recipe:

  • 1 large can of Bush’s Bake Beans (I love the original flavor)
  • 2 strips of bacon
  • 1/2 c brown sugar
  • 1 bell pepper
  • 1/2 c diced onion
  • 1 tbsp Jane’s mixed up salt
  • 1 tsp Red pepper flake
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tbsp butter

*Sautee the bell pepper, onion, and butter until the onions are translucent, combine all ingredients (except the bacon), spray a 9×13 baking dish with non-stick spray and pour bean mixture into the dish, lay the bacon across the top and bake in the oven on 400 for 30-40 minutes*

I hope these recipes treat you right and your next date night on your back porch is fun and FULL-filling. 😉
